Introduction

Writer, photographer, educator. I began my career in 1984 writing as a weekly columnist for the Eureka Times-Standard daily newspaper in California; since then I have taught public school for many years, while continuing to do freelance writing work.

Are you a hack (writer, content creator, etc.) or a hacker (engineer, coder, designer, etc.)?

I am a Hack. 100%. It is all about the communication. While teaching has been my mainstay career for over a decade, writing and photography have always been incorporated in some way throughout the years. I believe in the power of the right words, used thoughtfully and creatively.

Are you looking for partners to collaborate on projects, and if so, what?

I have been writing, off and on, since working for a small California newspaper in 1984 as a weekly columnist, spot news/features reporter and photographer. However, my formal training is in education, and I have spent the last decade and a half in that profession. 15 years in education has been great (working with kids) and horrible (the politics) at the same time. Over the years I have written PR pieces for our local school as well as travel and health articles for Trails.com and liveSTRONG.org through Demand Media. I've also done some freelance work for a local seacoast Maine newspaper. I'm currently blogging daily on The Positive Page (see link below), and occasionally via The Dark Globe. I'm focusing on relearning current practices in writing and journalism. There's a lot to learn (SEO, the role of Social Media, etc.), and this group has been outstanding for helping with that. Thank you! You're a great group, and make the 3 hour round-trip from Maine totally worthwhile.
