Boston Globe (map)
DESCRIPTION: No longer is it enough to research, write and file a story; today’s journalists, bloggers and storytellers must engage their (now worldwide) audiences through new media tools and digital toys, both within their stories and as public figures.
But these tools and toys can be a double-edged sword: While they have opened up new avenues for research, storytelling and promotion, questions about proper use and best practices continue arise as the news world integrates them.
Join TNGG Boston, Hacks & Hackers and journalists and bloggers from around the city for a roundtable discussion about the good, the bad and the questions that arise when old-school journalism practices combine with new social platforms.
WHERE: Globe Lab @ Boston Globe, 135 Morrissey Blvd, Dorchester Plenty of parking. Also easy access from Red Line: Get off at JFK/UMass stop; 5 min walk from there.
BONUS EXTRA: Free coffee & cookies. ;-)
Hey Dania --
Sorry for the late response. While we don't think we'll be able to record the meeting, we will definitely share the PowerPoint we'll be using afterwards.
Sorry you won't be able to join us!

Angela: I'm coming & have a recorder that can plug into your mic system if that's an option.
Hi Annie --
That would be fantastic! I'm not sure if it will work, but we can ask the tech guys when you get here. I'm wearing an orange top. Come find me!

Hey all --
Just wanted to say thank you for an awesome discussion last night! We're working on pulling together tweets, audio, and the presentation slides into one big recap, so stay tuned for that. It'll be up by the end of the week.

Angela: Nicely done on Storify, we've played around with Storify and I like the general idea of it, but have you figured out if there's actually a way to drive any traffic to your site when you use it? Other drawbacks I've heard is that because it uses JavaScript it can take a while to load, plus is useless for SEO purposes since it doesnt get crawled on your site.
Hey Bob --
Thanks! I'm going to be completely honest, I'd never actually used Storify until I put this together; I knew how it worked, and I thought it was a cool idea, but I'd never had a reason to use it. I'm hoping maybe Alex or Hiroki, our community manager, can give you some answers though.
An addendum: I will say that I didn't have a single problem with load time, both while I was putting the Storify together and while looking at it now.
Happy Friday! Just wanted to let everyone know that the slides (still in Storify) are now synced with audio (and thanks, Annie, for recording; it sounds fantastic!). And with that, I promise to stop my commenting! =)
I'm about to invest in a new recorder and headphones for my local reporting and would like to know what Annie was using Tuesday night. Do others here have a favorite?
The day after the meetup, The Guardian debuted a fantastic advert that's all about this subject. In two minutes, it shows how the newspaper would cover the "Three Little Pigs" story using a variety of social media tools. It's the best ad I've ever seen for a news organization. Check it out here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/video/2012/feb/29/open-jo...![]()

was recorded with the internal mics, since I knew the conversation would take place all around me.
I wish I could come! I am flying home that very day. Is there a way to get a recording of the meeting?
